Thanuja's Scottsdale House & Garden

Author: Rob Siganto

THANUJA joined the Scottsdale team as an Engineer nearly 5 years ago.  First in New Zealand and now based in Brisbane, Australia at head office.

What did you do prior to joining the Scottsdale team?

Worked at Australian Tube Mills and a couple of other places as a structural engineer.

Where did you study engineering?

I studied at the University of Moratuwa in  Sri Lanka and then did my PhD at Queensland University of Technology.

What do you predict will change in the industry over the next 10 years?

Builders will use more cold-formed steel frames rather than timber, masonry, etc.  The industry will develop a greater appreciation for steel’s sustainability, cost-effectiveness, non-combustibility, durability, stability, strength and the ease of fabrication.

What has been your favourite Scottsdale project?

I like challenges so I would have to say developing our software so that it can be used in different countries, and is compliant with the different design standards for each region. However, by far my favourite project using Scottsdale’s product has been designing and building my own home and 100 square metre vegie garden.  Such an interesting and rewarding project. I learnt a lot.

What’s your favourite building in the world and why?

It’s has to be the Sydney Opera House for its  architectural design and location.

When you’re not working what do you like to do?

Spend time with my family and gardening.
