What is FrameExtend24?
The FrameExtend24 (FE24 in short) is an auxiliary roll forming machine that transforms a pre-formed C-section into a smaller C-section that fits seamlessly inside the original part. By reducing the overall part dimensions – both web width and flange height – by approximately 2.5 mm or 0.1 in., this machine creates a sleeve that can be easily slid inside the original part. This sleeve can be used to create telescoping, extendable studs or boxed beam sections, perfect for posts, traditional headers, and any other application where additional strength or a closed member is required.
What problem does FrameExtend24 solve?
In non-load bearing wall applications where metal stud steel framing is subject to dimensional uncertainties of the supporting concrete, steel, or another superstructure, contractors typically have a difficult time panelizing given the inability to determine the exact as-built dimensions of the supporting structure the panel attaches to. As a result, ceiling and wall contractors typically engage in a labor intensive on-site work of cutting studs to size, or relying on costly deflection clips. FE24 enables panelizing through a unique telescoping mechanism allowing for pre-assembled telescoping wall panel to extend and fit perfectly underneath a supporting structure.
The same solution can also be employed in load-bearing or non-load-bearing context when transporting pre-fabricated steel framing is difficult due to logistical confines (trucking limitations, tight elevators, etc.). Either a load-bearing or non-load bearing reduced steel-framed wall panel can be brought into the building (be it an attic, a basement, or a constrained elevator space), and extended into its final height.
FrameExtend24 is an ideal complement to Knudson by Scottsdale KFD-2025G1 model equipped with deflection track slot tooling whereby the powerful combination of the two devices virtually eliminates dimensional uncertainty of the finished structure as a factor in steel framing. Thereby, both costly rework or timely on-site fabrication can be eliminated. FE24 also works with Scotpanel 7090G1/G2, 5090G1/G2, 5140G1/G2, or 7140G1/G2 machines.
